Commitment Ceremonies

Commitment Ceremonies

A commitment ceremony is a way for a couple to show their dedication to one another without the legal confines of marriage. Commitment ceremonies are most often used by couples who simply do not care to follow the standard marriage contract.

A commitment ceremony is often very similar to many other kinds of weddings complete with a church, wedding gown, flowers, and hundreds of guests. The difference is that rather than being a legally binding ceremony, it is simply a public affirmation of a couple’s commitment to one another.  A commitment ceremony may be religious or secular, formal and traditional, or loose and unstructured.

Rituals and ceremonies are important events in the lives of individuals, partners, and families. When Celebrations by Shari refers to a commitment ceremony, it is meant to be an event that does not involve laws or government agencies in any way.  There is no license or certificate and the participant’s legal status does not change.
